Fitzroy Community School 2
completed 2016, garden in progress
Building 2 for the Fitzroy Community School comprises 5 new classrooms and amenities. Central to our design are the proportional, spatial and rhythmic relationship with Building 1 designed 5 years prior. Fundamental geometry, a breathable facade, and warm comforting interior materials enhance the educational principles of the school, and importantly, give the children a bold, inclusive and encouraging learning space. Turning difficult site and planning constraints into opportunities, curved glazing to the south facing facade and operable skylights were used to maximise daylight to classrooms, and to minimise overshadowing of the childrens’ play area. Operable louvres provide essential cross ventilation. Photographs by the architect.
